Ven Johnson

Ven Johnson is the founder and president of Ven Johnson Law, PLC, and one of America’s most accomplished plaintiff trial attorneys. With nearly 40 years of courtroom experience, he has represented clients in high-stakes cases involving civil rights, police misconduct, product liability, medical malpractice, and catastrophic personal injury.

Ven earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1986, following his completion of a B.A. in Political Science at Kalamazoo College in 1983. He began his legal career in defense litigation before joining Fieger Law, where he became a partner and gained national prominence for his trial work.

Throughout his career, Ven has secured more than $1.5 billion in verdicts and settlements, including over 30 jury verdicts exceeding $1 million. His historic $100 million verdict in Edwards v. Grubbs (2022) is the largest excessive force verdict in U.S. history. He has fought tirelessly in cases involving school shootings, dam failures, and wrongful deaths, challenging governmental immunity and advocating for victims’ rights.

Ven’s work has been widely recognized with honors including induction into the Inner Circle of Advocates, the Michigan Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame, and the State Bar of Michigan’s Respected Advocate Award. He has also been consistently listed among Michigan Super Lawyers and DBusiness Magazine’s Top Lawyers.

A leader in the legal community, Ven Johnson has served as president of the Michigan Association for Justice and chaired the State Bar of Michigan’s Negligence Law Section. He regularly appears in national media to share legal expertise on high-profile cases and systemic justice issues.
