Russell Coleman

Russell Coleman serves as Kentucky’s 52nd Attorney General and has dedicated more than two decades to advancing public safety and justice. His tireless efforts to fight violent crime and drug abuse define a career built on integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Kentucky.

Russell earned both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky. His education laid the groundwork for a respected legal career, giving him the skills and perspective to address complex issues in law enforcement and policy. That foundation continues to guide his approach to service and justice.

Russell’s professional background includes his 2017 nomination and unanimous confirmation as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. In that role, he led significant initiatives to reduce crime and strengthen community safety. Before his federal appointment, he served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Oldham County, focusing on criminal prosecution, and as Senior Advisor and Legal Counsel to U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, providing strategic counsel on legal and policy matters.

Russell achieved his lifelong ambition of becoming an FBI Special Agent, serving in several offices across the country and completing a temporary mission in Iraq. Although an injury ended his field career, his dedication to protecting Kentuckians has never diminished. Born in Paducah and raised in Mayfield and rural Daviess and Logan Counties, he remains closely connected to his roots and continues to support law enforcement through the Kentucky State Police Foundation Board.
