Michael J. Bargar is a partner at Rountree Leitman Klein & Geer, LLC, where his practice centers on bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, and financial restructuring. He represents trustees, creditors, and debtors in all aspects of bankruptcy law, with particular experience handling fraudulent-transfer and preferential-transfer litigation, avoidance actions, and asset sales under Chapter 5 and Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code.
Bargar earned his Bachelor of Arts from Ashland University, where he played varsity basketball, before completing an M.B.A. in banking and finance from Case Western Reserve University. He later received his Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law, where he served as Executive Notes and Comments Editor of the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal and earned a Transactional Law and Skills Certificate.
Since 2018, Bargar has served on the Chapter 7 Panel of Trustees for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division. In this role, he manages and liquidates a wide range of assets, including intellectual property, oil and gas interests, and commercial and residential real estate.
Bargar also has extensive experience representing creditors, successfully obtaining stay relief, prosecuting dischargeability actions, and defending claims disputes. His debtor representation includes Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases, along with loan workouts and restructuring strategies.
Michael J. Bargar’s leadership extends to the broader legal community. He is a Barrister of the Georgia Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Director of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute.
