About
George W. Brandt is a founding member of Lyons, Brandt, Cook & Hiramatsu and has built a distinguished career in business transactions and commercial litigation. With more than four decades of practice, he leverages extensive experience to help clients resolve complex business challenges, avoid disputes when possible, and deliver effective representation when litigation is unavoidable. His work also includes maintaining a strong transnational practice, particularly with legal systems in Asian countries.
Mr. Brandt earned three degrees from Cornell University: a B.S. in 1964, an M.B.A. in 1965, and a J.D. with distinction in 1972. During law school, he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review, inducted into the Order of the Coif, and honored as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. His academic achievements prepared him for a career at the intersection of law and business, where he continues to provide practical, results-oriented counsel.
Over his career, Mr. Brandt has been consistently recognized with Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards. In addition to his practice, he has served as an adjunct professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii, where he taught courses on commercial and secured transactions. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Hawaii, the Supreme Court of California, the U.S. District Courts for Hawaii and Northern California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Before entering the legal profession, George W. Brandt gained valuable leadership experience in business and served as a captain in the United States Army. Today, his practice continues to span a wide range of areas, including bankruptcy, business formation, employment law, environmental law, government contracts, insurance coverage, and litigation.
