George W. Brandt

George W. Brandt is a founding member of Lyons, Brandt, Cook & Hiramatsu and has built a distinguished career in business transactions and commercial litigation. With more than four decades of practice, he leverages extensive experience to help clients resolve complex business challenges, avoid disputes when possible, and deliver effective representation when litigation is unavoidable. His work also includes maintaining a strong transnational practice, particularly with legal systems in Asian countries.

Mr. Brandt earned three degrees from Cornell University: a B.S. in 1964, an M.B.A. in 1965, and a J.D. with distinction in 1972. During law school, he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review, inducted into the Order of the Coif, and honored as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. His academic achievements prepared him for a career at the intersection of law and business, where he continues to provide practical, results-oriented counsel.

Throughout his career, Mr. Brandt has earned Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards, reflecting his reputation as a trusted, top-rated attorney. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaiʻi, where he taught courses in commercial law and secured transactions. Mr. Brandt is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Hawaiʻi, the Supreme Court of California, the U.S. District Courts for the District of Hawaiʻi and the Northern District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Before entering the legal profession, George W. Brandt gained valuable leadership experience in business and served as a captain in the United States Army. Today, his practice continues to span a wide range of areas, including bankruptcy, business formation, employment law, environmental law, government contracts, insurance coverage, and litigation.
