Kris Mayes serves as the Attorney General of Arizona and is widely recognized for her leadership in consumer protection and public service. A lifelong advocate for fairness, she has dedicated her career to defending the rights of Arizonans and ensuring accountability across government and industry. Her work reflects a deep commitment to ethical governance, sustainability, and justice for all communities.

Mayes earned her B.A. in Political Science and Journalism from Arizona State University, where she first developed her passion for public policy. She later received her M.P.A. from Columbia University and her J.D. from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. She was admitted to the Arizona State Bar in 2005, combining her academic excellence with a strong sense of civic duty and leadership.

Before her election as Attorney General, Mayes served as a Commissioner on the Arizona Corporation Commission from 2003 to 2010, including as Chair from 2009 to 2010. Her leadership helped create thousands of jobs, expand renewable energy programs, and protect Arizona’s water and environmental resources. Her policies saved consumers billions while holding corporations accountable for fair practices.

Kris Mayes has also worked as a professor at Arizona State University’s School of Global Sustainability, where she taught energy law and public policy. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated integrity and dedication to public service, empowering Arizonans through education, advocacy, and reform. As Attorney General, Mayes continues to champion consumer rights, environmental responsibility, and the principles of justice that protect every resident of Arizona.
