John R. Heard

John R. Heard is a highly respected Texas attorney who has spent more than three decades helping individuals navigate Social Security Disability and related legal matters. His commitment to client advocacy has earned him numerous accolades, including recognition from Super Lawyers for five years and a prestigious AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

John began his academic journey at the University of Texas, earning a B.A. with honors in 1971. He earned a Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Texas at Austin Law School in 1975. During law school, he served on the Law Review and was a Teaching Quizmaster, a role reserved for top-performing students. Following graduation, he clerked for a United States District Court Judge before launching his own legal practice in San Antonio in 1976.

John focuses his practice on Social Security Disability (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), VA disability benefits, probate, and guardianship matters. A seasoned speaker on Social Security law, he regularly trains other attorneys on strategies for winning disability and benefits claims. Known for delivering efficient, favorable results, John helps clients navigate complex government benefit systems and secure the compensation they deserve.

John is licensed to practice in Texas state courts, multiple federal courts within the state, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 2001. John is also a Past President of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives and holds memberships in the Texas Bar Foundation and the College of the State Bar of Texas.
