Jason Miyares

Jason Miyares serves as the Attorney General of Virginia, recognized for his commitment to justice and public service. His journey began with the inspiring story of his mother, Miriam Miyares, who fled communist Cuba and instilled in him a deep respect for liberty and democracy. Guided by these principles, he has worked tirelessly to protect communities and uphold the rule of law across the Commonwealth.

Jason earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from James Madison University and later obtained his J.D. from the College of William and Mary School of Law. His education provided the foundation for a career rooted in ethical service, strong leadership, and a dedication to improving access to justice for all Virginians.

As a prosecutor in the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Jason partnered closely with law enforcement to bring violent offenders to justice and make neighborhoods safer. His prosecutorial experience gave him firsthand insight into the challenges facing victims and the importance of ensuring accountability within the legal system.

During his tenure in the Virginia House of Delegates, Jason earned recognition for his leadership and advocacy. He was named “Legislator of the Year” in both 2018 and 2019 by the College Affordability and Public Trust for advancing transparency and affordability in higher education. That same year, he was honored by the Hampton Roads Military Officers Association of America for supporting military families and by the Safe House Project for his efforts to combat human trafficking—a cause he continues to champion as Attorney General.

Jason Miyares remains devoted to safeguarding the American dream, protecting citizens’ rights, and ensuring that future generations inherit a stronger, freer Virginia. Jason made history as the first Cuban American elected to the General Assembly, the first Hispanic elected statewide, and the first son of an immigrant to serve as Attorney General of Virginia.
