Josh Kaul serves as the 45th Attorney General of Wisconsin, where he has made public safety his top priority. Since taking office in 2019, he has led statewide efforts to combat the opioid crisis, reduce meth use, strengthen gun safety measures, and address sexual assault kit backlogs. His leadership reflects a strong commitment to protecting communities and ensuring justice for all Wisconsinites.
Kaul earned his B.A. in History and Economics from Yale University, graduating with honors, and went on to earn his J.D. from Stanford Law School. While at Stanford, he served as President of the Stanford Law Review, gaining early recognition for his leadership and analytical skills. His academic foundation in law, economics, and public policy continues to guide his approach to addressing complex legal and social challenges in Wisconsin.
Before becoming Attorney General, Kaul served as a federal prosecutor in Baltimore, where he handled high-profile cases involving violent crime, drug trafficking, and organized criminal activity. His work as a prosecutor honed his courtroom skills and deepened his dedication to justice and public safety. Upon returning to Wisconsin, he focused on voting rights, successfully challenging restrictive laws to protect fair access to the ballot.
