John B. McCuskey is the 35th Attorney General of West Virginia and a lifelong public servant recognized for his integrity, leadership, and dedication to the people of his state. With an accomplished career in law and government, he has consistently worked to promote transparency, strengthen accountability, and safeguard public trust across all levels of state administration and legal service.
McCuskey earned his degree in Political Communication from The George Washington University, where he developed a strong foundation in public affairs and leadership. He later obtained his J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law, preparing for a distinguished legal and public service career. Early in his professional journey, he worked as a civilian at the Pentagon, serving in the offices of the Army and Department of Defense General Counsels.
Before becoming Attorney General, McCuskey served two terms as West Virginia State Auditor, where he modernized financial oversight systems and improved public access to government data. His reforms in accountability and efficiency became benchmarks for responsible governance. He also served two terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates, where he advocated for fiscal responsibility, economic development, and transparent legislative practices to benefit West Virginia residents.
