About
Heather M. Gilbert is a Minnesota estate planning lawyer and President and Managing Attorney of Gilbert Law PLLC. She advises clients on estate planning, employment matters, business concerns, and dispute resolution. Her work includes wills and trusts, workplace issues, mediation, arbitration, and practical counseling designed to keep clients out of unnecessary conflict. She also serves as a civil dispute mediator, expert witness consultant, and attorney coach.
Heather earned her J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from Bethel College in Sign Language Interpreting and Translating English. She also completed graduate coursework in theological studies at Bethel Seminary. Her legal education included mock trial, civil rights moot court, and a CALI Award for Pre-Trial Litigation. She is admitted in Minnesota and several federal courts and holds mediation, arbitration, and legal interpreting certifications.
Heather spent the first 12 years of her legal career litigating plaintiff-side civil cases in federal courts around the country. Her representative matters included disability discrimination and communication-access claims under federal and Minnesota law. She now focuses more heavily on counseling, estate planning, mediation, and conflict prevention. Her dispute resolution experience includes employment discrimination, sexual harassment, parenting time, custody, child support, and communication issues. She also brings firsthand business ownership experience to clients seeking practical planning guidance.
Heather M. Gilbert has been selected to Super Lawyers since 2024 after receiving Rising Stars recognition from 2014 through 2022. She is an adjunct professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and teaches for the National Institute of Trial Advocates. She has served in leadership roles with the Minnesota State Bar Association and Ramsey County Bar Association and received an Access Award from the Minnesota Commission Serving Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing people.
