Later, he earned his J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law, where he participated in Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions, and became licensed in Mediation and Family Mediation. He also studied International Criminal Law at the University of Guanajuato in Mexico.

After gaining experience at James “Lin” Thompson and Associates and the Gregg County District Attorney’s Office, Erick founded his own practice in 2000. His trial record includes numerous not guilty verdicts, reflecting his skill in courtroom advocacy and deep understanding of Texas criminal law.
