Robert A. Rush

Robert A. Rush is a distinguished Gainesville trial attorney recognized for his expertise in both civil and criminal law. As one of only two attorneys in Florida dual board-certified in these areas—and the only one to hold this distinction for more than twenty-five years—Robert has established a reputation for excellence, dedication, and results-driven advocacy across a broad spectrum of legal matters.

Robert earned both his Bachelor of Arts, with high honors in Religion and Environmental Studies, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. While in law school, he was a member of the university’s inaugural trial team, which won the National Championship. His passion for trial work later led him to teach Trial Practice and coach the University of Florida Levin College of Law’s Trial Team to multiple national victories.

Since opening his own firm in 1988, Robert has led a team of attorneys handling criminal defense, personal injury, wrongful death, automobile accidents, civil rights violations, and commercial litigation. His legal career began in 1985 at the Public Defender’s Office, where he gained invaluable courtroom experience trying a wide range of cases, including first-degree murder. In civil matters, he has secured multi-million-dollar verdicts for clients and successfully defended complex cases at trial and on appeal.

Beyond his legal practice, Robert is deeply involved in his community. A Gainesville resident for more than 35 years, he has served as a Governor on the Florida Bar Board of Governors and on its Executive Committee. His civic dedication includes restoring historic Gainesville properties and serving on the Alachua County Volunteer Center Board.
