About

Doug Norwood is an Arkansas criminal defense lawyer focused on DWI and criminal cases. He has more than thirty years of experience and has helped defend over 35,000 criminal cases, including thousands of felonies and more than 11,000 DWI matters. His practice centers on finding legal and factual weaknesses in the government’s case, including police errors, evidence problems, and constitutional issues that may affect the outcome in court.

Norwood earned his B.S. in Criminology from Florida State University. He earned his J.D. from the University of Arkansas. After law school, he worked as a prosecutor before opening his DWI and criminal defense practice in 1988. That background helps him understand how criminal cases are charged, negotiated, and tried from both sides, especially when clients face DWI, felony, misdemeanor, or traffic-related accusations in Arkansas courts and hearings.

Norwood is certified to administer National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Field Sobriety Tests and has training on the Intoximeter EC/IR II, Arkansas’s required BAC testing device. He has argued cases before the Arkansas Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also written criminal law books on prosecutorial misconduct and constructive possession that lawyers use throughout the United States in defense practice and training programs nationwide.

Doug Norwood helps people by defending them when criminal charges threaten freedom, records, licenses, work, and family stability. He reviews reports, testing, witness statements, police conduct, and legal defenses to seek dismissals, not guilty verdicts, or better outcomes. His leadership in criminal defense organizations, teaching, research, and trial work supports clients facing DWI, felony, misdemeanor, and other criminal charges in local courts across Northwest Arkansas communities.
