Charity R. Clark

Charity R. Clark is Vermont’s first woman elected Attorney General, a historic achievement that underscores her commitment to justice and public service. Since assuming office in 2023, she has led decisive efforts to protect Vermonters through landmark actions addressing corporate accountability, environmental safety, and individual rights across the state.

Clark earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and later received her Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. Before pursuing law, she served as a policy analyst in the Vermont Governor’s Office under Governor Howard Dean, gaining insight into state governance. Her early legal practice began at firms in Burlington, Vermont, and New York City, where she honed her skills in litigation and policy advocacy.

Joining the Vermont Attorney General’s Office in 2014 as an Assistant Attorney General, Clark advanced to become Chief of Staff in 2018—the first to hold the position. In that role, she oversaw initiatives such as statewide expungement clinics and policies promoting workplace equity, including earning the office recognition as a Breastfeeding-Friendly Employer.

As Attorney General, Clark has pursued justice with resolve, filing major lawsuits against Monsanto for PCB contamination and Meta for its impact on youth mental health. She has advocated for domestic violence prevention, reproductive freedom, and environmental protection, ensuring that Vermonters’ rights and safety remain at the forefront of her administration’s priorities.
