About
Valeri Kiesig is an attorney with Nevin, Benjamin & McKay whose practice includes defense of federal and state crimes, appeals, federal and state investigations, and significant civil litigation and claims. She joined the firm after clerking for Idaho Supreme Court Justice Gregory Moeller. Her work draws on strong research, writing, and analytical skills in matters where clients face serious criminal allegations, investigations, or complex litigation.
Valeri attended Boise State University, where she received the Silver Medallion, and later earned a Master of Public Health from Columbia University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She then earned her J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law, graduating summa cum laude and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Idaho Law Review. Her multidisciplinary education supports careful factual and legal analysis.
Valeri’s legal training included externships for U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill and the Capital Habeas Unit of the Federal Defenders of Idaho. Before becoming an attorney, she worked as a research scientist and public health epidemiologist for the New York City Health Department and taught at the college level. That background adds research depth and communication experience to criminal defense, appellate work, investigations, and civil claims.
Valeri Kiesig brings an unusual combination of appellate writing, public-health research, teaching, and judicial-clerkship experience to her practice. Her role at Nevin, Benjamin & McKay centers on protecting clients in criminal and investigative matters while also addressing complex civil claims when needed. She also contributes to the criminal defense community through professional service, including work connected to Federal Defender Services of Idaho.
