Ty Cobb

Ty Cobb is a Washington, DC attorney who manages Ty Cobb, PLLC and handles selected complex litigation and corporate governance matters. Ty earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978 and an A.B. from Harvard University in 1972. His education provided a foundation in legal analysis, advocacy, and complex litigation that has supported a career spanning private practice, federal prosecution, government service, and corporate counseling. After law school, he clerked for a federal district judge before beginning work as a federal prosecutor in Maryland, where he later held leadership responsibilities in criminal cases.

Ty served as an Assistant US Attorney for the District of Maryland and became Chief of Criminal Cases, while also working with the President’s Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force. He later spent 29 years as a partner at Hogan Lovells, where he led practices involving white collar criminal litigation, DOJ and SEC enforcement, and congressional investigations. From July 2017 until June 2018, he served in the White House as Assistant to the President and Special Counsel to the President.

Ty Cobb now focuses on selected complex litigation and advisory matters through his own practice. His background gives him experience with investigations, enforcement proceedings, corporate governance, congressional scrutiny, and sensitive disputes involving public officials and major companies. He combines trial and investigative experience with an understanding of government processes and regulatory risk, helping clients address matters that may involve significant legal, business, and reputational consequences. His practice reflects decades of work at the intersection of litigation, enforcement, public service, and corporate decision-making.
