Troy P. Anderson is a skilled patent attorney whose career bridges advanced research and intellectual property law. He combines technical expertise with legal insight to guide inventors in protecting their innovations and building strategies that support long-term success. His background in engineering and optics allows him to understand complex technologies and tailor effective legal solutions.
Troy first earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He continued his academic journey with a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Optics from the College of Optics at the University of Central Florida. He later received his Juris Doctor, graduating with high distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law, where his writing was recognized with multiple honors.
Troy built his career in research before practicing law, serving as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and later as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. In these roles, he worked with a multi-disciplinary team to pioneer laser-based technologies for advanced applications, including medical devices, surface treatments, electrolysis, and self-cleaning materials. His technical work resulted in more than twenty peer-reviewed publications, numerous presentations, and three patents as a co-inventor.
Troy applies this technical depth to his legal practice, using his experience as a researcher to identify novel aspects of inventions, evaluate their integration with existing technologies, and design intellectual property strategies suited to available resources. His approach emphasizes clarity, precision, and alignment with inventors’ goals, making the patent process more effective and accessible for those he represents.
Troy P. Anderson continues to use his unique combination of technical and legal training to support innovators, offering informed guidance to help protect their ideas and strengthen their competitive edge. He has been honored with awards for his legal writing ability, including the Silver Quill Award and the McGrath North Excellence in Legal Writing Award. He was also inducted into the Order of the Coif for outstanding academic performance. In addition, he is admitted to the Nebraska Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
