Peter L. Brewer is a partner at Thrive IP® and a registered patent attorney with over two decades of experience in intellectual property law. He represents clients in patent and trademark matters, contract negotiations, licensing, due diligence, and portfolio management. His practice spans multiple industries, with significant experience in energy, mechanical and electro-mechanical technology, medical devices, sporting goods, and emerging technologies.
Mr. Brewer earned his B.S. in Engineering from Texas A&M University and his J.D., cum laude, from South Texas College of Law Houston. During law school, he clerked for Shell Oil Company and the law firm Vinson & Elkins, later serving as a Briefing Attorney to the Texas Supreme Court.
Mr. Brewer is admitted to the State Bars of Texas and Tennessee and to multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals. He is one of the few registered patent attorneys in the country with a petroleum engineering degree, enabling him to advise energy sector clients with technical insight. Over his career, he has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications for major oilfield service companies, semiconductor manufacturers, and leading product developers. He has also managed trademark portfolios for nonprofit organizations as part of his pro bono work. A frequent CLE speaker and author on IP topics, he serves on the boards of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association and the Association of Intellectual Property Firms.
