Susan Z. Cohen

Susan Z. Cohen is a seasoned criminal defense attorney with extensive experience in DUI litigation, appellate matters, and post-conviction relief. Her work includes defending clients facing serious charges such as DUI, traffic violations, and juvenile crimes. She is known for handling complex legal issues and fiercely protecting the rights of her clients.

Susan began her academic journey at the University of Florida, earning a B.A. in Criminal Justice in 1977. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Savant Math Honors group. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1985. Her commitment to excellence in education laid a strong foundation for her legal career.

Susan’s legal path started as an Assistant State Attorney in Gainesville, Florida, where she prosecuted criminal cases. She later practiced in Virginia as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney and worked in private practice. Returning to Florida, she served at the State Attorney’s Office in Jacksonville until 2000, when she joined Epstein & Robbins.

Susan’s practice focuses on aggressive DUI defense, including DMV administrative hearings, breath and blood test challenges, and field sobriety test disputes. She also handles DUI appeals and post-conviction relief, guiding clients through license issues, record impacts, and other consequences of a conviction. In addition, she has substantial experience defending military veterans and individuals facing underage or under‑21 DUI charges.

Susan has served on multiple professional committees, including the Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee and Juvenile Rules Committee. She is a Past President of the Northeast Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and continues to serve on the board of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
