Steven L. Hartley

Steven L. Hartley is a managing partner at Hartley & McGehee, LLP, and has focused on family law for more than 22 years. He represents clients in divorce, child custody, child support, paternity, property division, mediation, and family disputes. His long record in this field shows steady leadership and deep knowledge of family court practice. He works to guide people through difficult legal problems with clear advice, careful planning, and practical solutions that protect their rights and support fair outcomes.

Mr. Hartley earned a B.A. cum laude in Political Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1991. He then earned his J.D. from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii, in 1996. This education gave him a clear understanding of public issues, legal writing, and courtroom advocacy. It also prepared him to handle complex family law matters with skill, focus, and sound judgment.

Mr. Hartley began his career in 1996 with Stirling & Kleintop, where he developed his practice and became a partner in 2000. In 2004, he continued practicing family law with Mallor, Clendening, Grodner and Bohrer, LLP in Indiana. After returning to Hawaii in 2005, he helped form Lockwood & Hartley, ALC, and later opened Hartley & McGehee, LLP in 2009. He is licensed in Hawaii and Indiana and has served in key bar leadership roles, including Chair in 2012 and earlier as Secretary.

Steven L. Hartley has helped many people by providing experienced guidance on serious family law matters and by supporting the fair resolution of disputes. He has written articles and delivered presentations on paternity, child support, property division, mediation, discovery strategy, and divorce tax issues. He also serves as an appointed arbitrator in the Hawaii Court-Annexed Arbitration Program and as a Volunteer Settlement Master for the Family Court. In 2015, he was appointed a Per Diem Judge in the Hawaii State District Court.
