Soumitra Deka

Soumitra Deka is a partner in the San Francisco office of Squire Patton Boggs and an experienced patent litigator. With more than 20 years of experience, he represents clients in high-stakes intellectual property disputes involving advanced technologies and complex business issues.

Soumitra earned his B.S. in Physics from Tulane University in 2000. He later received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 2003. His education in both science and law supports his ability to address complex technology and intellectual property matters.

Soumitra focuses his practice on patent litigation and intellectual property disputes. He regularly represents clients in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and handles litigation involving trade secrets, antitrust claims, and royalty disputes.

Soumitra works with clients across many technology sectors, including semiconductors, optical networking, 3D imaging and display systems, hard disk drives, telecommunications, and cybersecurity. He also represents clients in patent disputes involving pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Soumitra gained early technical research experience at a telecommunications equipment company before beginning his legal career. He also worked in the in-house legal department of a semiconductor research and manufacturing company while attending law school.

Soumitra is admitted to practice law in California and New York and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and federal district courts.

Soumitra Deka continues to advise clients on complex intellectual property matters while delivering strategic legal guidance grounded in both technical understanding and extensive litigation experience.
