About
Scott Summy is a nationally respected environmental trial lawyer who has built a career representing public entities and communities harmed by large-scale contamination. His work centers on protecting drinking water, natural resources, and public finances through complex litigation that addresses widespread chemical pollution and long-term environmental damage affecting communities across the country.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarleton State University in 1986, where he developed a strong foundation in analytical thinking and public issues. He later completed his Juris Doctor at Texas Tech University School of Law. During law school, he participated in national moot court programs and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Appellate Advocacy.
Scott began his environmental practice after taking on an early MTBE drinking water contamination case in North Carolina. That experience shaped his focus on water safety and corporate accountability. The matter resulted in a record settlement and revealed a nationwide contamination problem, setting the stage for decades of litigation on behalf of affected public water providers.
Scott later assumed national leadership roles in major environmental proceedings, including PFAS and AFFF litigation. As Co-Lead Counsel in AFFF MDL No. 2873, he represents hundreds of public entities seeking damages for PFAS contamination. His work contributed to historic settlements with multiple manufacturers totaling billions of dollars.
Scott has also led landmark cases involving PCBs, atrazine, MTBE, and TCP contamination. He helped secure a $648 million nationwide PCB settlement with Monsanto, a $105 million atrazine resolution for water providers, and over $1 billion in MTBE-related recoveries. These outcomes strengthened accountability for legacy chemical pollution nationwide.
Scott has played a central role in wildfire and energy-related litigation, representing public entities impacted by catastrophic California fires and the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill. His leadership contributed to multi-billion-dollar recoveries for governments, businesses, and families. His work has been recognized by honors such as Lawdragon Hall of Fame, Law360 – Environmental MVP, and America’s Best-in-State Top Lawyers.
Scott Summy continues to focus on high-impact environmental cases that protect public health and shared resources. Through decades of courtroom leadership, settlement negotiations, and national advocacy, he has helped communities recover cleanup costs, restore damaged ecosystems, and secure long-term solutions to complex environmental challenges.
