About
Russell L. Winner is a seasoned civil trial lawyer who has represented clients in Alaska since 1978. His practice includes Native law, natural resources and environmental law, intellectual property, and personal injury. He has handled matters in both state and federal courts and remains an active member of the Alaska Bar Association, where he has contributed to multiple practice sections and served on the Bar Examiners’ Committee. His long career reflects both legal excellence and service to the profession.
Mr. Winner earned his Bachelor’s from Stanford University in 1970 and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1975. He was admitted to the Washington Bar in 1977 and the Alaska Bar in 1978. Before founding Winner & Associates, P.C. in 1986, he worked with the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Alaska Regional Solicitor’s Office and with Graham & James, a San Francisco-based international law firm.
Beyond private practice, Mr. Winner has been dedicated to teaching and advancing legal education. He taught Environmental Law, Federal Courts, Remedies, and Ocean Law at Lewis & Clark Law School, where he continues to serve on the Board of Visitors. He has also taught Constitutional Law at the University of Alaska Anchorage Justice Center and published law review articles in environmental and ocean law, further contributing to scholarship in his field.
Russell L. Winner is a member of the Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and is a past chair of the Alaska Action Trust. He is also active in civic service through the Downtown Anchorage Rotary Club, where he serves on the Youth Exchange Committee. With more than four decades of practice, he remains a trusted advocate and respected leader in Alaska’s legal community.
