Robert H. Thornburg is a registered patent attorney with wide-ranging experience in intellectual property litigation, enforcement, and defense. His practice covers patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and unfair competition disputes. He has handled more than one hundred intellectual property cases and assisted clients with patent filings, trademark registrations, and domain name disputes.
Robert began his academic path earning a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1999. He went on to achieve his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2002, with honours, earning recognition in The Order of Barristers and a Certificate Degree in Intellectual Property. In 2004, he completed his L.L.M. in Intellectual Property Law, with honours, at The John Marshall Law School.
Robert has secured significant results for clients across multiple industries. His record includes defending companies accused of infringement, negotiating favorable settlements, and obtaining jury findings of no damages or liability. He has also represented international clients in U.S. courts, managed patent portfolios for technology companies, and resolved domain name disputes under ICANN protocols. His work spans fields such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, energy systems, security technologies, telecommunications, and consumer products.
Robert combines legal knowledge with real-world engineering skills. Before law school, he worked as an associate engineer at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, helping develop advanced filtration systems for the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle. His leadership extends beyond casework, serving on committees within the Florida Bar, chairing intellectual property associations, and co-founding the Copyright Society’s Miami Chapter.
