Richard M. Carter has over forty years of experience handling complex litigation, including commercial construction, intellectual property, professional liability, and serious personal injury and wrongful death. He has tried numerous jury trials in both state and federal courts, earning a reputation for strategic advocacy and courtroom skill.
Richard earned his Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1973. He later received his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1980. While in law school, he served as Editor-In-Chief of the Law Review, was on the Moot Court Board, and received the Sam A. Meyer Scholarship.
Richard is certified in Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a distinction he has held since 1999. He has represented professionals such as doctors in matters involving contracts and license protection. His service includes work on multiple court committees shaping local federal rules, including chairing the Western District’s Local Civil and Standing Rules Committees.
Richard has contributed extensively to the legal field through public speaking, teaching on topics such as federal rules, patent law, trial practice, and wrongful death litigation. His lectures include updates on Supreme Court decisions and developments under the America Invents Act. He is also a fellow in both the Tennessee Bar Foundation and the Litigation Counsel of America.
Richard M. He holds an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell and has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America and among the Best Lawyers in Tennessee.
