Cara R. Baer

Cara R. Baer is an experienced attorney at Butler Snow, concentrating her practice on transactional matters for life sciences companies and academic medical institutions. Her work spans intellectual property counseling, global medical research agreements, international privacy law, and mergers and acquisitions in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Cara earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis in 2004. She holds a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Maryland (2001) and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University (1999). She is admitted to practice in Tennessee, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, and the U.S. Patent Bar.

Cara represents some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical and biotech companies. She regularly drafts and negotiates development, manufacturing, licensing, and clinical trial agreements. She also counsels academic medical centers on international research compliance and global data privacy regulations.

Cara’s experience includes major licensing deals—such as with Exact Sciences and TwinStrand Biosciences—and advising on international IP strategies, including trademark clearance and licensing across more than 40 countries. Cara also develops contract frameworks for medical device sales and trains operational teams on contract implementation.
