Rebecca Kitson is a highly accomplished immigration attorney with a distinguished career dedicated to advocating for individuals and families navigating complex immigration matters. She earned her B.A., with honors and distinction, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her J.D., cum laude, from the University of New Mexico School of Law (UNMSOL). While in law school, she began her work with immigrant survivors of domestic violence at Catholic Charities, focusing on petitions and visas under the Violence Against Women Act, laying the foundation for her career in immigration law.
Ms. Kitson joined the Immigration Law firm of Lawit & Kitson in 2006, becoming a firm shareholder in 2009. In 2012, she established her own firm, where she continues to handle a broad range of immigration cases, including family and employment-based immigration, removal defense, and asylum. Known for her meticulous legal work, she has successfully guided clients through challenging immigration processes, ensuring fair representation and justice for her clients.
In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Kitson has been an adjunct professor at UNMSOL since 2009, mentoring future generations of legal professionals. She serves on the Leaffer Border Justice Initiative, advocating for immigrant rights through education and powerful advocacy.
Ms. Kitson is a sought-after speaker on immigration and asylum law, frequently presenting for the New Mexico and Texas State Bars and other professional organizations. She has addressed the 10th Circuit Judicial Conference on complex asylum issues and is a regular contributor to Leadership New Mexico, a nonprofit focused on developing cross-sector leaders statewide.
Additionally, she has co-authored resources for public defenders on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions and contributes to AILA’s Consular Processing Guide.
