Peter H. Pogue has built a distinguished career as an attorney dedicated to complex litigation in the medical and healthcare field. He has concentrated his practice on defending claims involving medical malpractice, pharmaceutical malpractice, nursing home negligence, and legal malpractice, while also representing healthcare professionals before state licensing agencies. His work has placed him at the forefront of high-stakes litigation, where he has guided clients through challenging and sensitive disputes.
Peter began his academic journey at DePauw University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983. Following graduation, he spent three years working with the Minority Leader of the New York State Assembly, gaining valuable insight into legislative processes and public policy. He later attended Valparaiso University School of Law, where he completed his Juris Doctor in 1989. While in law school, he was an active member of the Valparaiso University Law Review, refining his legal research and writing skills.
Peter’s career includes significant leadership and professional service. He has been active in the Defense Research Institute within its Medical Liability Section, and earlier in his career, he served as Young Lawyers’ Liaison to the Drug and Medical Device Committee Steering Committee. He also chaired the Medical Malpractice Section of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana from 2001 to 2002. Additionally, he contributed to the American Health Information Management Association through his role on the Editorial Board between 1996 and 2002. His dedication to education and the legal community is further reflected in his term as National President of the Valparaiso University School of Law Alumni Association from 2000 to 2002.
Peter has presented at numerous professional seminars, sharing his knowledge on topics including medical malpractice litigation, nursing home negligence, and pharmacy malpractice. His presentations, such as those delivered during the ICLEF Masters Series, demonstrate his commitment to risk prevention and professional development in the field. Beyond teaching, he has tried multiple medical malpractice cases before both juries and judges, strengthening his reputation as a seasoned trial attorney.
