Paul N. Roth

Paul N. Roth has built a long legal career advising public and private companies in financial services, along with their boards of directors. His work centers on private investment funds, regulatory issues, and major business transactions. He is widely known for steady counsel in complex finance-related legal matters.

Paul earned his AB from Harvard College, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his JD from Harvard Law School, cum laude. He also received a Fulbright Fellowship for the study of Law in the Netherlands, giving him added international legal training and perspective.

Paul has more than 50 years of experience in private investment funds law. His practice includes work with hedge funds, private equity funds, offshore funds, investment advisers, and broker-dealers. He assists clients with fund formations, compliance, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, and domestic and cross-border financial transactions.

Paul has been considered the “dean of the hedge fund bar” because of his deep role in the field. He serves as Special Adviser to the MFA Board of Directors and has advised AIMA on US Regulatory Issues. He also held leadership roles with the American Bar Association.

Paul has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Chambers Global, Chambers USA, IFLR1000, The Legal 500 US, Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, and New York Super Lawyers. His honors also include The Hedge Fund Journal Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Hedge Fund Industry and the Hedge Funds Care Lifetime Achievement Award.

He lectured at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and served as an Adjunct Professor of Finance at NYU Stern School of Business. His professional service includes roles with the RAND Center for Corporate Ethics and Governance and the Economic Club of New York.
