James F. Lucarello is a partner in Charlotte and a member of the Commercial Lending Group. He focuses on loan origination, including acquisition financings, secured and unsecured bank financings, mezzanine financings, second-lien financings, and asset-based lending for banks and financial institutions across industries.
James earned a J.D., summa cum laude, from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2010, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Touro Law Review. He received a B.A., magna cum laude, in History from Ithaca College in 2003, building a strong academic foundation.
James represents direct lenders, banks, and other financial institutions in a wide range of lending transactions. He also works with lenders, sponsors, and borrowers. His work includes drafting and negotiating loan agreements, security agreements, promissory notes, pledge agreements, guarantees, and detailed term sheets.
Before joining Chapman, James practiced law at Winston & Strawn LLP, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, and Alston & Bird LLP. His experience at these firms provided him with broad exposure to complex financial transactions and strengthened his ability to advise clients clearly and effectively.
James focuses on asset-based lending, banking and financial services, commercial lending, and mergers and acquisitions. He also works on mezzanine finance and second lien financings. His approach is practical and detail-focused, helping clients manage risk and complete transactions smoothly.
