David T.B. Audley is a Partner at Chapman and Cutler LLP in Chicago. He serves as Co-Practice Group Leader of the Litigation Group. He has been with the firm since 1985 and focuses on commercial litigation, handling complex disputes with careful analysis and strong advocacy.
David earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985. He also holds a B.S. in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, which he completed in 1982, providing a strong academic foundation for his legal career.
David concentrates on commercial litigation, including creditor and debtor matters, bankruptcy law, securitization, and securities fraud issues. His work also involves government finance, tax, and banking law, helping clients address complex legal disputes with practical strategies and clear legal guidance.
David has served as Special Assistant State’s Attorney for several Illinois counties. In this role, he provided litigation support in civil matters involving finance and tax issues, representing public interests while managing complex legal proceedings and delivering reliable legal solutions in government-related cases.
David has appeared before the Illinois Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court, as well as various federal Courts of Appeals. He also helped secure one of the largest jury-awarded civil RICO Act damage awards in the United States, demonstrating his ability to manage high-stakes, complex litigation matters.
David T.B. Audley is admitted in Illinois and in several federal courts, including the Seventh and Sixth Circuits of Appeals. He has also contributed to legal education through writing and presentations. He continues to provide strong litigation support to clients across a wide range of industries.
