Patrick Gunn

Patrick Gunn is a seasoned trial lawyer and partner at Goodwin Procter LLP in San Francisco. As part of the firm’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution group, he represents clients in high-stakes commercial, real estate, and technology-related disputes. His clients include major players in the technology, venture capital, and real estate industries. He is frequently chosen as lead counsel in high-profile and contentious matters and has successfully tried many cases to final judgment or award. Patrick’s work spans contract litigation, shareholder actions, trade secret cases, and real estate conflicts involving multimillion-dollar assets.

Patrick earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990 and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1994.

With more than 30 years of experience in high-stakes real estate and finance litigation, Patrick represents sponsors, developers, borrowers, and lenders in disputes involving financing, commercial leasing, receiverships, foreclosures, and distressed property workouts. His track record includes defeating a $20 million developer claim against NVIDIA, defending Mark Zuckerberg in a real estate lawsuit, and winning an arbitration award for Goldman Sachs. Patrick has also handled complex, cross-border, and high-value cases for leading companies such as Rappi, Zoom, and Alexandria Real Estate Equities.

Patrick previously served as head of the business litigation group at Cooley LLP, where he led a 250-lawyer team. He is a recognized leader in the field, having been named to Best Lawyers in America for Construction Law and Commercial Litigation (2023–2025), and honored by Benchmark Litigation and The Daily Journal for top defense verdicts.
