About
Monica E. Edwards is a Partner who concentrates her practice on environmental, insurance, intellectual property, real estate, energy, natural resources, and business matters. She assists property owners, companies, and public entities with complex environmental issues, including contamination involving petroleum, chlorinated solvents, and heavy metals. Her work often involves recovering funds for investigation and clean-up and guiding clients through state and federal environmental requirements.
Monica earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas (1994). She went on to receive her M.S. in Hazardous Waste and Materials Management from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas (1996). She later obtained her J.D. from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, Louisville, Kentucky (2000). Her scientific and legal education gives her a strong foundation for handling technical environmental matters.
Monica draws on her background as a technical services chemist and environmental consultant to support clients with environmental due diligence and risk evaluation. She coordinates site clean-ups, negotiates environmental settlement agreements, and pursues historical environmental insurance claims to recover defense and indemnity costs. She also represents clients in matters under CERCLA, Indiana’s Environmental Legal Action Statute, and the Underground Storage Tank Act, including Excess Liability Trust Fund appeals.
Monica assists businesses with trademark and copyright registration, assignment, and renewal. She helps develop intellectual property policies, negotiates confidentiality agreements, and addresses licensing and defense matters, including cease and desist actions. Her practice also includes environmental assessments for real estate transactions and mergers, as well as representation in air permitting matters and related appeals.
Monica E. Edwards is admitted to practice in the State of Indiana and before the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana. She has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America© for Environmental Law, Insurance Law, and Real Estate Law, and was named “Lawyer of the Year” for Real Estate Law (2023). She is rated AV® Preeminent™, Martindale-Hubbell®, received the Evansville Chamber of Commerce John Biasini Environmental Excellence Award, and was selected to the Indiana Super Lawyers® Magazine, Rising Star.
