Mike Hilgers serves as Nebraska’s 33rd Attorney General, elected in 2022. In this role, Mike focuses on safeguarding Nebraska families, defending constitutional principles, and strengthening cooperation with law enforcement. He also prioritizes preserving the state’s natural resources, ensuring that Nebraska’s water and environmental assets remain protected for future generations.

Mike graduated from Omaha Creighton Preparatory School in 1997 before earning his economics degree from Baylor University in 2001. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. Following graduation, he clerked for Judge Edith Clement on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, gaining significant insight into the judicial process.

Before assuming office, Mike practiced law for over fifteen years, handling complex litigation and discovery disputes in both state and federal courts. After working at a large law firm, he established his own litigation practice, which grew rapidly into one of the nation’s fastest-expanding firms. Under his leadership, the firm expanded to over one hundred professionals and managed cases across the country, reflecting his dedication to legal excellence and organizational growth.

Mike also devoted six years to legislative service, representing Northwest Lincoln and Lancaster County in Nebraska’s Legislature for District 21. During his final two years, he served as Speaker of the Legislature, guiding important legislative priorities. Throughout his tenure, he championed initiatives supporting constitutional protections, law enforcement, and conservation of water resources—issues that continue to shape his approach as Attorney General.
