A dedicated public servant, he focuses on strengthening community safety, combating fraud, and ensuring that every North Carolinian has access to justice. His leadership reflects a lifelong commitment to service, integrity, and defending the rights of the people of North Carolina.
Jackson earned his B.A. and M.A. from Emory University and his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law. After graduating with the help of the G.I. Bill, he began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor in Gaston County, where he tried serious felony cases, including murder and sexual assault. Before his election as Attorney General, Jackson served eight years as a North Carolina state senator representing Mecklenburg County and later became the first U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District. In both roles, he championed education, economic opportunity, and public safety initiatives designed to strengthen communities and protect working families.
A Major in the Army National Guard, Jeff Jackson has served his country for over two decades, including a deployment to Afghanistan. His military discipline and dedication to public service guide his leadership at the Department of Justice, where he oversees the State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and criminal appeals across the state, ensuring fairness, transparency, and justice for all.
