About
Michael W. Modica is a seasoned Delaware trial lawyer with more than four decades of experience in criminal defense. Since 1982, he has represented clients facing charges ranging from DUI and traffic violations to serious felonies, including capital murder. His entire practice is devoted to litigation, giving clients a strong courtroom advocate.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McDaniel College in 1979 and then completed his Juris Doctor at Emory University School of Law in 1982. That same year, he was admitted to the Delaware Bar and later admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Michael began his career as a Deputy Attorney General with the Delaware Department of Justice. Since transitioning into private practice, he has successfully defended clients in Superior Court, Family Court, the Court of Common Pleas, and various municipal courts. He has also argued appeals before the Delaware Supreme Court, with several of his cases resulting in published opinions.
Respected for his skill and ethics, Michael holds a Martindale-Hubbell rating of “Very High” in both legal ability and ethical standards. He has been invited to speak at legal seminars on DUI defense and criminal evidence, and has appeared on MSNBC and WILM as an expert in criminal defense. Judges have also appointed him to represent defendants in capital murder cases.
