John P. Deckers

John P. Deckers is a seasoned trial attorney whose practice focuses on criminal defense in both state and federal courts. With over three decades of experience, he has built his career on energy, skill, and a dedication to protecting clients’ rights. As a former prosecutor, he brings a unique perspective, anticipating the strategies of police and prosecutors while building strong defenses for his clients.

John graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1988 before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1992. A proud graduate of Salesianum High School (1984), John is admitted to practice before the Delaware Supreme Court (1992), the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware (1998), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (2000), and the United States Supreme Court (2000).

John began his career as a Deputy Attorney General for the state of Delaware, where he prosecuted cases ranging from juvenile offenses to capital murder. He later directed the state’s Drug Asset Seizure Unit and lectured regularly at police academies and legal seminars. Since 1998, he has practiced as a sole practitioner, concentrating on criminal defense and successfully handling cases from misdemeanors to serious felonies.

In addition to criminal defense, John handles employment law matters, representing teachers and law enforcement officers in investigations, as well as civil litigation involving tort claims, allegations of abuse, and forfeiture proceedings. His practice reflects versatility, but his primary focus remains criminal justice reform and vigorous client advocacy.
