About

Michael Tonn brings a steady and service-minded approach to his legal work. Before building his law career, he served four years in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain and received an honorable discharge. His background shaped a disciplined style focused on preparation, responsibility, and practical client support.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Portland State University. He then attended Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, where he earned Juris Doctor.

Michael gained early legal experience as a research assistant for Professor Paul Diller and wrote case reviews for Willamette Law Online. He was also a member of the Willamette Journal of International Law and Dispute Resolution, where he developed careful legal analysis and clear writing skills.

Michael also worked as a law clerk for the Oregon Law Center, a legal aid organization, and the Willamette Business & Non-Profit Law Clinic. These roles gave him experience assisting people and organizations with legal concerns while learning how thoughtful guidance can make difficult matters easier to understand.

Michael later worked for the State of Oregon, first as a social worker and then as a hearing representative. In that role, he handled administrative law hearings for the Department of Human Services, Aging and People with Disabilities, helping address matters involving public service, process, and client needs.

Michael returned to Wisconsin in December 2018 and passed the Wisconsin State Bar exam, earning his license to continue his legal career in the state. His Wisconsin practice focuses on estate planning and criminal defense, where he helps clients prepare for the future and respond to serious legal challenges.

Michael Tonn serves clients with a practical understanding of legal systems and the people affected by them. His experience in legal aid, administrative hearings, and client-focused advocacy supports his ability to explain options clearly, protect client interests, and guide people through important legal decisions.
