Melody Fowler-Green has spent over two decades championing the rights of workers and advocating for justice across communities. She has represented thousands in federal employment cases, fair housing disputes, and civil rights litigation. Her leadership in diversity and inclusion efforts has helped create lasting change in workplaces, government, and education.

Melody began her academic journey with a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1994. She then earned an M.A. in Women’s Studies from the University of Cincinnati in 1997, focusing on the intersections of race and gender. She completed her J.D. cum laude at Georgetown University Law Center in 2000, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy.

Melody has held key positions in legal services and advocacy organizations. As Managing Attorney for Southern Migrant Legal Services, she fought for the rights of migrant and low-wage workers. She also served as Legal Director at the ACLU of Tennessee and led Nashville’s Metro Human Relations Commission for seven years, where she tackled equity and human rights issues.

Melody regularly shares her knowledge through lectures, training, and legal writing. Her work is featured in treatises like Wage and Hour Laws: A State-by-State Survey and The Family Medical Leave Act. She has provided training at conferences such as the Tennessee Fair Housing Matters Conference and the National Migrant Advocacy Conference, educating both legal and civic professionals.

Melody continues to impact policy and community progress through her board roles with the Tennessee Fair Housing Council, Tennessee Employment Lawyers Association, and Nashville Public Radio. Her ability to resolve conflicts involving identity and values has made her a trusted voice in inclusive public leadership. She has also taught at the University of Cincinnati and Lipscomb University, mentoring future advocates.
