Matthew C. Williams brings decades of legal experience to clients across Idaho who need guidance in difficult legal matters. His practice includes criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation cases. He has represented individuals facing misdemeanor and felony charges while also helping families manage sensitive legal disputes and courtroom proceedings with confidence and preparation.
Matt earned a political science degree from Western Oregon University before attending the University of Idaho School of Law in 1997. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho School of Law and was admitted to practice law in Idaho in October 2000. During law school, he gained early courtroom experience through both court and jury trials.
Matt began building his trial experience while serving as the Valley County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Cascade, Idaho. He later worked in private practice before being elected as the Valley County Prosecuting Attorney in 2004. After winning re-election in 2008, he completed two terms before returning to private practice in January 2013.
Matt has worked on a wide range of legal matters involving criminal defense, divorce, custody disputes, guardianships, adoptions, and civil litigation. His civil litigation experience includes breach of contract matters, homeowners association disputes, defamation claims, and eviction cases. He has also handled cases involving child protection and juvenile legal issues throughout his career.
Matt has represented clients in several significant cases that resulted in favorable outcomes. He secured a jury verdict for a wrongfully terminated chief of police after a federal jury trial. He also achieved favorable settlements in matters involving Southwest Airlines, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, and claims connected to alleged violations by the City of Middleton Police Department.

Matt understands how stressful the legal process can become for clients and their families. His background on both the prosecution and defense sides gives him insight into courtroom strategy and trial preparation.
