Marlon L. Bates is a seasoned attorney with nearly four decades of experience in real estate, foreclosures, creditor bankruptcy, and business law. Since 1991, he has served as a partner with his firm, including three terms as managing partner. He represents a wide range of clients, including banks, mortgage companies, credit unions, loan servicers, title insurers, property managers, landlords, developers, and real estate brokers. His practice emphasizes efficiency and client-focused results.
Mr. Bates earned his J.D. from George Washington University National Law Center in 1986, where he was a member of the Moot Court Honors Board and ranked in the top 5% for legal research and writing. He completed his B.A., magna cum laude, at Brigham Young University in 1983 and received his A.A. with highest honors from Ricks College in 1981. He was admitted to the Utah Bar and federal courts in 1986.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bates has handled thousands of foreclosure and bankruptcy matters, consistently delivering effective resolutions for financial institutions and creditors. His work has earned recognition from Martindale-Hubbell with an AV rating, designation as a Lawyer of Distinction in Real Estate, and repeated honors as one of Utah’s top creditor rights attorneys in Utah Business Magazine’s Legal Elite. He is also approved counsel for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Beyond transactional work, Marlon L. Bates has extensive trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts. He served seven years as a Small Claims Court judge and frequently lectures on real estate litigation, foreclosure law, and creditor bankruptcy. His professional memberships include the Utah State Bar, American Bar Association, Legal League 100, and the American Legal and Financial Network.
