Steven J. Shamburek

Steven J. Shamburek is a veteran attorney whose practice spans admiralty, aviation, bankruptcy, business, construction, real estate, and transportation law. Since beginning his career in Alaska in the 1980s, he has built a reputation for providing thoughtful, timely, and professional counsel in both transactional and litigation matters. Shamburek emphasizes careful planning to help clients avoid unnecessary disputes, and when litigation is required, he works to resolve matters fairly, efficiently, and effectively. Shamburek earned his B.A. in economics with a minor in political and social thought from the University of Virginia in 1978, followed by his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1984. He also completed executive education at the Federal Executive Institute in 1977. After law school, he clerked for two federal judges and a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, an experience that sharpened his legal analysis and advocacy skills. His admissions include all Alaska state and federal courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Over the years, Shamburek has represented clients in more than 100 admiralty cases and over 150 bankruptcy matters involving creditors’ rights, adversary proceedings, and appeals. His experience extends to construction law, employment disputes, federal practice, and commercial transactions, including complex loan documentation, partnerships, and corporate structures. He also has significant experience with maritime liens, Miller Act claims, real estate litigation, and aviation regulatory issues.

In addition to practice, Steven J. Shamburek has authored articles, delivered presentations, and contributed to professional organizations. He is active in multiple sections of the Alaska Bar Association and has served on local admiralty and bankruptcy rules committees.
