Mr. Baumgartner earned his Juris Doctor from William & Mary Law School in 2000, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He also completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Hawaii in 1997. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. Tax Court.

Throughout his career, Mark R. Before joining Pender & Coward, Mr. Baumgartner served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1986, operated an import and wholesale distribution company from 1991 to 1997, and worked as a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Merchant Marine Officer until 2002.
