Mark A. Kilgore is a shareholder at Patterson Intellectual Property Law, P.C., where he focuses his practice on patent prosecution, intellectual property infringement litigation, and strategic IP counseling. With a strong scientific background, Kilgore provides high-quality guidance to clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, and mechanical industries. Kilgore earned his J.D., cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law. He also holds a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, an M.S. in Microbiology from Auburn University, and a B.S. in Microbiology from Auburn University. His deep scientific training gives him a unique perspective when handling technical patent matters and advising clients on licensing agreements, non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements, and other IP-related transactions.
In addition to his work in patent prosecution, Kilgore has extensive experience in intellectual property litigation. He has represented clients in infringement cases before U.S. District Courts, appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and administrative reviews such as inter partes reviews before the USPTO. His litigation work has included matters related to material science, industrial equipment, chemical formulations, and medical devices for both domestic and international companies.
Mark A. Kilgore also counsels clients on trademark and copyright procurement and has handled trademark opposition proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He remains active in the legal and scientific communities through memberships with the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Society for Neuroscience. He has written extensively on neuroscience, design patent protection, and Right of Publicity issues.
