Gary L. Montle is a shareholder at Patterson Intellectual Property Law, P.C., who helps inventors and manufacturers protect their intellectual property in the U.S. and worldwide. As a registered patent attorney and former Field Service Engineer, Gary brings more than twenty years of hands-on technical experience to his legal practice. Clients appreciate that he understands how their products work and how to craft strong patents that keep their innovations secure.
Gary earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and completed an internship at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. He also holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with an emphasis in instrumentation and controls.
Gary focuses his practice on preparing and prosecuting patents for electrical products, control systems, and software applications. His engineering background includes international work on multiple continents, which has shaped his understanding of global patent protection. Today, he draws on that perspective to guide clients through patent filing and prosecution strategies in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States.
Active in the legal community, Gary L. Montle is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Nashville Bar Association, and the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, where he served as President from 2018 to 2019.
