Maggie Dunsmuir

Maggie Dunsmuir is a senior associate with Harlan York & Associates, where she represents clients in permanent residence, naturalization, removal defense, detention, asylum, and visa matters. She regularly advocates before U.S. Immigration Courts and the Immigration Service, and has successfully argued appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals, Federal Courts, and the Administrative Appeals Office.

Maggie earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis before obtaining her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. During her education, she studied abroad in both Ireland and Guatemala, gaining a broader perspective on international legal issues. Her early experience includes internships with Catholic Charities Immigration Services, the New York Immigration Court, Advocates for Children of New York, and various legal aid organizations.

Throughout her career, Maggie has developed particular strength in representing vulnerable populations. She has successfully handled numerous cases under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), helping clients secure visas and green cards through these critical protections. She has also lectured on VAWA issues for the New Jersey State Bar Association, sharing her insights with peers in the legal community.

In addition to humanitarian-based cases, Maggie frequently assists with employment-based immigration, including H-1 B and L-1 visas, as well as employment-based permanent residence applications. She has obtained waivers of inadmissibility for clients worldwide. She has secured positive outcomes in reopening previously denied cases, offering clients new opportunities to remain and thrive in the United States.

A member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Maggie Dunsmuir is admitted to practice in New York. She is conversant in Spanish, enhancing her ability to communicate effectively with a diverse client base.
