Kurt A. Rohlfs is a partner at Chernoff Vilhauer LLP, where he focuses his legal practice on patent prosecution, IP licensing, portfolio management, and intellectual property litigation. With deep technical expertise and global reach, he represents clients across a wide range of advanced technologies and industry sectors.

Kurt earned his Juris Doctor from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Nebraska. He is currently a master’s candidate in Electrical Engineering at Portland State University, further developing his expertise in handling complex, high-tech IP matters.

Kurt is admitted to the Oregon State Bar, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. He prepares and prosecutes both domestic and international patent applications in areas such as wireless systems, video coding, image processing, software, circuits, and raw materials processing.

Kurt’s practice also includes ex parte appeals before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board, as well as drafting licensing agreements and analyzing patent infringement and validity. Notable clients include Sharp Laboratories of America, Cascade Corporation, and the Greenbrier Companies, each relying on Kurt’s skill in protecting and leveraging intellectual property assets.

He is also an active member of the Oregon Patent Law Association and the Multnomah Bar Association.
