About
Kevin E. Childress is a seasoned attorney with over 20 years of experience helping clients navigate complex probate matters. His legal practice centers on estate and trust administration, guardianships, conservatorships, and litigation in these areas. He also drafts wills, trusts, and other planning documents to help individuals secure their assets.
Kevin earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Austin Peay State University in 1991. He then pursued his legal education at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1994. During law school, he was selected for the moot court debate team, reflecting his early commitment to legal advocacy.
Kevin began his career as a Public Defender, where he gained valuable courtroom experience. In 1997, he transitioned into private practice with the late J.C. McLin. When McLin was appointed a Judge in 2000, Kevin launched his own practice. He also worked with Judge McLin on community initiatives, including founding a nonprofit to support ex-felons with employment and citizenship restoration.
Kevin has built a respected reputation in probate law and often serves in trusted roles such as Guardian ad Litem, Attorney ad Litem, Special Master, and Personal Representative in court matters. He also occasionally sits as a Substitute Judge in Shelby County Probate Courts and contributes as a panelist and speaker at legal events.
Kevin provides outside counsel to a major local hospital and represents both local and out-of-state firms in probate-related issues. He is also a part-time Delinquent Tax Attorney for the Shelby County Trustee’s Office and played a key role in revising the Shelby County Probate Court Local Rules.
Kevin E. Childress is a member of several professional organizations, including the Memphis Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is a Memphis Bar Foundation Fellow and serves on the Disciplinary Hearing Committee for District IX of the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.
