Julie Oster

Julie Oster is an experienced family law attorney and owner of her own practice, serving clients across North Dakota and Minnesota. Her work focuses on divorce, custody, mediation, and parenting coordination, combining her legal expertise with a deep background in social work to offer practical, compassionate advocacy in family law matters.

Julie earned her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in 2005, where she served as chair of the Community Service Panel for the Women’s Law Student Association. She also completed 44 hours of family mediation training through the Erickson Institute of Mediation. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Social Work from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, both of which she completed in 2000.

Julie is admitted to practice law in North Dakota, Minnesota, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of North Dakota. She is a Qualified Neutral in both states and has served as a family mediator for the North Dakota Supreme Court’s pilot mediation project. Her qualifications also include work as a parenting investigator, guardian ad litem, and parenting coach.

Before founding her firm, Julie worked as an associate attorney, law clerk, juvenile probation officer, and child protection worker. This diverse professional history uniquely equips her to handle sensitive family dynamics with insight, clarity, and care.

Julie’s practice is deeply informed by her experience in social work. She has led support groups for grandparents raising grandchildren, assisted school systems with anti-bullying programs, and served on numerous community and legal associations, including the State Bar Associations of North Dakota and Minnesota, as well as the Minnesota Women’s Law Association.

Julie Oster’s client-focused approach reflects her commitment to resolving family law issues with fairness, empathy, and effectiveness. She continues to advocate for families while helping them navigate the legal system with confidence and support.
