Joshua Van Kampen

Joshua Van Kampen is the founding partner of Van Kampen Law, dedicated exclusively to representing employees in workplace disputes. Ranked among North Carolina’s Top 100 attorneys by Super Lawyers from 2017 to 2025, and repeatedly listed as one of Charlotte’s Top 25 attorneys, he is recognized for his aggressive, effective plaintiff-side advocacy.

Mr. Van Kampen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University in 1993 and subsequently completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1998. He began his career in Chicago, practicing at national defense firms Seyfarth Shaw and Franczek Sullivan. There, he represented Fortune 500 companies and mid-sized businesses in employment disputes, gaining valuable insight into defense strategies.

In 2004, Mr. Van Kampen transitioned to plaintiff-side representation, founding his own practice in North Carolina. His firm focuses on employment discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and executive-level disputes. By limiting the number of cases accepted, the firm ensures each client receives the attention and resources needed to stand against large defense teams.

Mr. Van Kampen also contributes to the legal community through leadership and education. He currently serves as vice-chairman of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association’s Labor and Employment section and has chaired the North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s Employment Law Section. He has also served on the North Carolina Bar Association’s Employment Law Executive Committee and is active in the National Employment Lawyers Association and Southern Trial Lawyers Association.
